Tolerance and respect – Second Life

In Second Life there are many hobbies, lifestyles, and fetishes. I’ve said in previous posts that, because Second Life’s content is primarily created by the community, there are a wide array of things to do. There is something for everyone. You can live your second life as a Gorean warrior, a slave, a child, a parent, and even a husband or wife. You can go fishing, create items, go dancing, be a DJ, or a vampire. The possibilities are endless.

With all these great lifestyles and hobbies, we also have to take into account the darker, more outrageous lifestyles. Like I said in a previous post, sex is quite possible in SL. It is not only possible; it is easy and free to access. Second life caters for every type of fetish you can think of. Go ahead and think of the most outrageous fetish…yeah sl probably has it. From BDSM to foot fetish, SL has it all.

Like RL, there are many people in SL who are VERY judgemental. They judge people for having group sex, they judge transvestites, they judge slave role play. The fact of the matter is, you people that judge, are stupid, inconsiderate, nobodies, whose lives suck severely. So what if a woman wants to role play a slave? Why do you have to dump your crap on her? It’s her choice, she enjoys it. No one is putting a gun to her head. No one is asking you to respect other’s decisions…but rather to tolerate them.

What most of the sl community cannot tolerate is people in SL who incite the idea of rape, bestiality (sex with animals), and child molestation. While these three things are illegal in most countries in rl, it is acceptable in second Life. How can such atrocities be acceptable in second life? Well there are a few simple reasons. First, rape role play is agreed upon by all parties involved. No one is forced into it. It is a fetish that everyone, involved, enjoys.

Second, Bestiality is also agreed upon by all parties involved. In RL, the poor animal is forced into sexual intercourse with a human being. In second life, either you have a person with an animal avatar, or you buy an animal sex bot. With regards to child molestation, there are grown adults who play the role of a child in sexual intercourse with an adult avatar. So Technically there is nothing wrong about these acts.
The problem I have, is that these acts promote the idea of things that I find completely wrong and disgusting. Even though it is a crime in RL, it is not on SL. So Basically I have to tolerate these acts. Personally I tolerate them, but I know a lot of people don’t and I can’t blame them.

For other stuff, can we please respect and tolerate other people’s way of life? In RL intolerance causes wars and conflicts. If we just ignore what other people do, instead of causing a fight, then every one on SL can live the happy second lives they want.
