Jobs in Second Life

Jobs in Second Life

If you’re new to the SL community, then I’m sure you have heard talk of Second Life Jobs. Before I started playing it, I first read the reviews on second Life. I was very curious when I read “Get a job on Second Life and earn lindens” I was like, wow that’s awesome. When I first started playing SL it wasn't all that I thought it would be. In fact, it was quite difficult to find a job.
In this post, I'm going to tell you about all the jobs available in second life and what their all about.
A second Life job works like a RL job. An employer will own some sort of business. It could be a club, strip club, escort agency, brothel, photography, estate agents, a porn star, or a wedding planner. These employers need employees to help them with the running of the business. Employers will pay you a certain amount of money for every week that you work. The employer will work with you when setting up times for your shift. Most employers understand that RL comes before second life, so they do not fault you if you can’t make your shift. However, you must inform them that you are unable to do the shift, so that they can quickly come up with a replacement.
Most employers have one requirement in common: Your avatar must be at least three months old. This rule is there because they want you to be familiar with the mechanics of the game. While some employers offer to train you, they do not want to take the time to teach you the bare basics of the game.
With all that being said, let’s get down to the different jobs in second life. Note that there might be others that are not on this list, but these are the ones that I know of.

A Host- A host is someone who hosts at a club, or event. They are the MCs so to speak. The host’s job is to introduce the event to spectators and basically does all the talking. The most important thing is to keep the vibe going and make sure that you are being social with the attendees. Throughout the shift, the host must remind the audience to show some “Linden Love” to the DJ if they like him/her. Twice during the host’s shift, he/she must send group notices at each hour for his/her two hour shift.

A DJ: DJ’s are hired to play in clubs, weddings, event, etc. Their job is to play music and make mixes. Their base responsibility is to entertain through music and to talk through a mic. I’m pretty sure using voice is a MUST.

Dancers: A dancer is someone who is hired to dance at a club or event. They set different dance animations and dance for the pleasure of the audience. They dress in a sexy way in order to get people’s attention.

Stripper: A stripper dances at a strip club. He/she must dance around a pole while stripping off their clothes slowly. Their main concern is communicating with their audience. They type out their actions as everyone does in role play. When they are tipped by a customer, they pay a “special” tribute to that person to show their appreciation.

Escort: An escort’s job is to please the customer who paid for him/her. Their main job is to be a date for an event, be a companion to a lonely customer, or to have sex with them. (I think this is the highest paid job in SL, FROM WHAT I HEARD)

Porn star: I think that this is kind of new. A porn star gets paid to play a role during a sex scene. The director will be camming it from his/her computer and direct the sex positions to be played. The director will also direct the porn stars on how to act during the sex. Porn stars get paid per video.

Wedding planner: You can be a freelancer or work for someone. The main job is to plan the wedding. Hire the venue, decorate it, have enough space for the guest list, hire the DJ, The host, and the priest or whatever.

Manager: An employer of any business might want to employ a manager. Because the owner might not have time to manage the business, it falls on the manager to get everything done properly. Being a manager, I think, has to be the most stressful job. If the manager does not do his/her job properly, the whole business could crumble.

Security: Many Sims have rules that need to be followed. Without someone to enforce the rules, people will not enjoy their experience there and thus the sim will lose a lot of business. The job of a security person is to IM someone who is not adhering to the rules. After three warnings, security has the power to kick a troublesome avatar out of the sim.
If you have any more jobs that I didn't list, then please comment. Thanks for reading!
