Great sims to visit on Second Life
In this post I am going to discuss my favourite sims in
Second Life. These are my personal views and in no way am I saying that they
are the best.
I am going to start this off with sims for newbies:
Freebie Island: Why do I like freebie Island? Well, like it
says in the name, it has freebies~ It’s a fairly large sim and has quite a few
freebies available. Not all the freebies here are great, but there are definitely
some that are worth checking out. Not only does it have freebies, the sim also
plays some awesome tunes for you to enjoy while you are doing your shopping.
Freebie Island is also a great place to socialize. You can meet other newbies
like yourself, or more experienced players. Many experienced players hand
around Freebie Island to help out newbies. If you are new to SL then I strongly
encourage you to visit Freebie Island first. Just watch out for the hunters!
What are Hunters? Not going to tell you yet.
Freebie Galaxy: This is another freebie sim. However, it is
not just any freebie sim. It is, by far, the biggest freebie sim in SL at the
moment. It has 15 floors full of freebies. Now, I gotta say that this place is
the king of freebies. It has everything that you need and more, as far as freebies
go. Because galaxy is so massive and has so many freebies, it usually attracts
A LOT of people. You may think “Well that’s not so bad”. Trust me when I
say..It’s bad. Why? Because there are so many avatars and so many scripts
running, that the lag on the sim becomes almost unbearable. As soon as you
teleport (tp) into galaxy, the lag will hit you so hard that mike Tyson would
say “Dang!” Your movements are slow and everything takes forever to rezz. Most
people visit galaxy to get what they need and then get out as soon as possible.
It’s not really a place to socialize in my opinion. Also, beware of the many hunters that prowl
this sim on a daily basis. (Nope not telling you yet)
Next on this list: The shelter. The shelter is not a sim to
find freebies. It is a sim to have fun in a safe and controlled environment.
Now that may sound boring to some of you, but I can tell you right now that we
need more sims like the shelter. In my one year of playing on Second Life, I
can safely say that SL can be a big, mean, and scary place just like RL. For a
newb, one can easily be put-off from second Life with just one bad experience.
I Highly recommend the shelter for all newbies. It’s got a
nice dance floor, great music, great people and helpful staff. It has active
security that is always ready to kick out troublesome avatars. It’s an amazing
place to socialize.
Personally, I had met my SL sister there when I was a newb.
Since then, we have always been close friends. As far as I know, there are no
hunters at the shelter.
