MOVING AND ROTATING OBJECTS IN SECOND LIFE
Decorating your own space can be a
pain in Second Life. If you don’t know how to do it, you can easily
become frustrated. In this post, I will guide you on how to rotate and move
objects, while placing them neatly and realistically.
First, let’s get familiar
with how to move and rotate objects. Right click on your object and choose
to “edit”. On the edit window there will be check boxes with words like
“Rotate” or “Move”. Those ones are the most important at the moment. To Move an
object, check the “Move” Box and the object will now have different colour
Moving an object
arrows around it. The blue,
vertical, arrow will move the object up or down. The red arrow will move the
object sideways, I.E to the left or right. The green arrow will push the object
frontward or backward. When moving the object, left click on the arrow and hold
the button while moving the mouse. Let go of the button when you have placed
the object as desired.
To rotate the object, check the box
that says “Rotate”. A circular ball will now appear on the object. Around the
ball, will be different color lines. The green line with rotate the object
vertically, or to make it face up, down, or upside down. The blue line, will
make the object face left, right, or behind. The red line will rotate the
object’s sides. E.g if you move the red line to the left, the object rotates at
a left angle.
Utilizing this function properly, is
KEY to decorating your space in second Life. Many a noob will
learn how to move and rotate objects, but they will mess it up. E.g if you want
to place a house on your land, you might not move it down enough, and it will
look like it is floating on air.
Basic
rules for decorating:
Rotating and moving an object |
-
Move the object up and down until it is sitting perfectly over the surface. You
don’t want to put it down too much so that it looks like it is sinking into the
floor nor do you want to place it so that it looks like it’s floating.
-
Push an object front and back until you have it where you need it to be. You don’t
want to push so far back that it sinks into the wall.
-
Rotate objects in such a way so that the object is straight up and not slanting
in any direction.
This can get pretty frustrating at
first, but eventually you will get used to it.
You can also use this method on
finger rings. When you wear a ring, it will sometimes look like it is not
around the finger or that it’s sinking through the skin. Just move and rotate
it so that it fits perfectly around the finger.
I hope that this post cleared up any
problems you were having with decorating. If you have any questions then just
comment and I will get back to you.
